VMware vRealize AI is easily one of the most exciting things I will be sharing today, aside from my article about VMware vRealize Cloud Universal and VMware vRealize Operations! So time to dig into things!
First of all, some of you may be quite familiar with Project Magna – it was announced last year at VMworld with a Tech Preview and the tales of things to come, and Cormac Hogan had a great post at the time covering a slew of information on it! Introducing Project Magna – Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for vSphere self-driving operations
Best of all, we can forget about the past and focus instead on the present and the future!
In a word, this is really about Continuous VSAN Optimization… (that’s 3 words…) but it’s also so much more than that, and that is a very essential piece of this, not only explicitly for VSAN and this solution, but also as part of the bigger picture of the SDDC Automated Datacenter of the future. I’m not going to be speaking for the AI Cloud team directly on this ‘prediction’ of how this is being leveraged… but I could easily see this start to provide benefit and value far beyond the VSAN as we know and into the rest of the Datacenter and the impact on operations, automation and so forth… But right now, let’s focus on what’s in the box and ways it has been and will be beneficial!
Improvement WITH METRICS!
This part in particular is really exciting because… you get to see what the ‘health’ of these Datacenters may be, but also, what the impact of an “Improvement” you make it, (ala, the impact it’ll have on real actionable operations!)
This in particular is very cool because you see not WHAT the impact is, but what the ACTION was that then drives this impact. And for anyone who has had to troubleshoot Write Latency by hand and ‘try stuff’ can attest to… That’s a horrible way to spend the day, or more commonly, weeks or months while trying to solve the problem mysteriously without effective datapoints to work from!
There is easily SO much more that is in the platform and you’ll be able to see when you use it to dig into your REAL living VSAN and HCI environments… But lets dig into some of the details.
A FAQ of sorts that I compiled
VMware vRealize AI Cloud is ONLY available for vRealize Cloud Operations customers today, and it will also only be available via vRealize Cloud Universal licenses today. (That’s ANOTHER great reason to go to vRealize Cloud Universal! :))
VMware vRealize AI Cloud has it’s own Management Pack that you’ll deploy as part of the Day 0 setup operations.
VMware vRealize AI Cloud will continually Learn, Analyze and Adapt while performing Continuous Updates in your Operations Environment.
And lastly… this last slide I want to include here… It says a lot on the surface, but the subtext I hinted at earlier… The piece I want to emphasize here as part of the VMware vRealize AI Cloud Vision… notice the ‘orange box’ around VSAN and vRealize Operations? That is today. Today, 29 September, 2020, Day 1 of VMworld 2020! Tomorrow (whenever in the future that is…) expanding to vSphere, to NSX-T, and who knows how many other components within the infrastructure and the stack. This is the part that excites me most. Not only the “Future” that is available here very much living in the present, but also the very near future of what is to come. This is so exciting, and I’m glad you’ll all be joining me as we head down the road to this Actionable Intelligence Future!
